DJOM Metals is a company specialised in UBC (used beverage can) recycling & solid waste management in Angola.

About Us

We are the biggest leaders in waste management for UBC in the country, and continuously growing.

Our vision is to be a strategic partner in the global UBC recycling market.

It all began with an idea.

DJOM Metals established its first UBC recycling unit in Angola, and has been reinforcing our presence in the international market while building strategic partnerships with local and global industries.

  • Call to accelerate UBC circularity

Global demand for UBC is expected to grow to 630 billion units by 2030, up from 420 billion in 2020. Recycling these cans could cut greenhouse gas emissions by 60 million tonnes each year. While over 70% of used beverage cans are currently recycled into new products, this is still not enough to meet the necessary targets for limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

Here at DJOM Metals, we are focused on boosting UBC recycling to close this gap. We aim to increase the number of cans we recycle and enhance the recycling process, ultimately promoting a more sustainable future and lowering global emissions.

  • Global Beverage Can Circularity Alliance

At COP28, leaders in the used beverage can industry urged national governments to implement policies aimed at reaching a global recycling target of at least 80% for UBC by 2030 and almost 100% by 2050.

In reaction to this, the Global Beverage Can Circularity Alliance was formed, bringing together important stakeholders to work towards these ambitious recycling goals.

As leaders in the UBC recycling industry in Angola, we fully support the call for national governments to adopt policies that drive towards a global recycling target.

  • Global Advocacy Strategy for the circularity of aluminium beverage cans

The Global Beverage Can Circularity Alliance (GBCCA) aims to achieve global circularity for used beverage cans by 2050, in line with the International Energy Agency’s Net Zero 2050 scenario. To reach this goal, global recycling rates must rise to at least 80% by 2030.

DJOM Metals is focused on boosting recycling rates and can-to-can recycling through five key actions: setting ambitious targets, raising awareness, improving collection and sorting, enhancing recycling infrastructure, and advocating for policies to reduce landfill and incineration waste.

  • The sustainable solution for used beverage cans

UBC are more than just convenient beverage containers. They represent a critical opportunity for sustainable resource management in Africa.

UBC can be endlessly recycled without losing quality. Nearly 75% of the 1.5 billion tonnes ever produced is still in use today. Each year, over 30 million tonnes of UBC scrap is recycled globally, maintaining its status as one of the most recycled materials on Earth.

At DJOM Metals, we are committed to advancing UBC recycling and supporting a sustainable circular economy in Angola.
